| Jupiter invited me to the premiere of the new video Fiasco that was being held at Cinespace. a skate video AND free Red Stripes? oh, fagetaboutit! SGV Veterano, Dalski was in full effect, sloshed off the double fisted freebies and blitzed from the blunt friendly environment. on the streets they refer to this as being 'on a good one'. just before his cold sweats broke out I decided to make Dalski do a quick 3 minute interview (you know how the SGV does it) with Baker Skateboards professional Leo Romero. neither of us had ever met Leo prior to this, and now that I think back, I'm glad he didn't tell us to fuck off. in fact he was just the opposite, Leo was mad cool. read the interview and trip out. |
SGV: so where are you from?
Leo: I was born in East LA and raised in Fontana.
SGV: right on. what do you think of fashion in skateboarding?
Leo: I think fashion is gay. I don't know... I think people worry too much about what they are gonna wear, or what the certain trend is or whatever.
SGV: so you don't care at all? how do you pick your clothes?
Leo: ummm... whatever is clean I guess.
SGV: me too. or whatever my girlfriend decides to clean.
Leo: I don't have a girlfriend now, but I know what you mean. even if it's dirty it at least smells like a girl.
SGV: so you like the club scene?
Leo: naw, not really. I usually like to just stay at home and drink with my friends.
SGV: so you just came out to support the video?
Leo: yeah, I got some friends that were in the video.
SGV: so what's your take on the SGV?
Leo: the SGV? what's that?
SGV: the SGV... the San Gabriel Valley. it's our little neighborhood, it's where we came from.
Leo: do you guys have good spots?
SGV: for sure, it's where Daniel (Shumizu) is from. Rosemead, San Gabriel, Alhambra.
Leo: oh... that's the whole situation? that's the deal? I lived there for 3 years before I moved to Fontana. I went there recently to visit some aunties that live there. it's not too bad.
SGV: are you from the same part of Fontana as Spanky?
Leo: actually he's from the Valley.
SGV: he's not from Fontana? I meant Bryan Herman.
Leo: Herman is from Victorville, thats 30 minutes north. I actually live in L.A. now.
SGV: oh. well L.A. is the place to be, right?
Leo: I don't know about that. everywhere I lived before there was more skating going on than there is over here. it's hard to go out and skate here.
SGV: thanks for the interview Leo. you down with the SGV, right?
Leo: yeah man, fuck yeah!
